Volunteer Blitz: opportunities to work with LWVME

We hope that you're staying safe on this chilly Saturday ❄️ Here's our Volunteer Blitz for February. The League has several ongoing projects and teams that could use dedicated folks. We promise that you can volunteer from your couch and stay cozy and warm under a blanket (or multiple blankets).

The following volunteer listings cover increasing voter engagement, forming a local guide to government, and joining our youth engagement team. Pick one that suits your interests and strengths. We hope to hear from your soon!

Voter Engagement Team Kickoff

Our Voter Engagement Team guides and coordinates all the work we do in engaging people as voters and citizens — from creating the voter guide to knocking on doors to reaching out to voters in marginalized communities. On February 9th at 10am, we'll be presenting a summary of all our different projects.

If you've ever been curious about the breadth of our engagement work, please join us and learn about it. Local leagues are welcome to share their projects as well! This team is open to new membership, so you can help shape our work moving forward.

Voter Guide Planning

It's never too early to start planning for our print voter guide. From design to printing to distribution, there are many opportunities for members to help the process go smoothly in 2024. We're going to create a distribution plan first, ensuring that we have plenty of time to build our list and figure out our process.

If you'd like to be involved in that process, please email Evan at evan@lwvme.org; whether you have time to join a workgroup or would just like to be kept in the loop, there's a role for you.

Guide to Local Government Project

We're creating a user-friendly guide to local government in Maine! The guide will serve as a resource for Mainers to learn about how their local government works and to feel empowered to get involved at the local level. We aim to have a version of the guide ready for a digital launch sometime in March, which means we need volunteers to help us complete it by then!

Writers: We are looking for volunteers to write a section or two of the guide. We already have the outlines of these sections and some research on hand, so this writing task is about synthesizing the information into a short and accessible explainer. This is an immediate volunteer task that will wrap up in a few weeks.

Editors: We are looking for volunteers to edit sections of the guide as they are written. The first round of edits will be for readability, clarity of information, and length. We need volunteers who can spend a little time editing every week throughout February.

If you would like to help us create the guide to local government, email Lane Sturtevant at lane@lwvme.org.
