Blue Hill, ME
6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
The Blue Hill Library and the League of Women Voters of Maine are cosponsoring a presentation on local government in Maine with Cecilia Zavestoski and Claire Fox on Thursday, March 26 at 6:30PM in the library's Howard Room.
The League of Women Voters of Maine encourages citizens to get more involved with local government. A non-partisan presentation, this educational session will first review the very basics of how Maine communities govern themselves. Participants will gain a better understanding of chartered versus unchartered communities and how cities and counties are governed, and more. This session will inform residents of various ways they can participate in local government as a volunteer or in an elected or appointed office.
Cecilia Zavestoski and Claire Fox, members of the League of Women Voters Downeast, are both retired educators. Cecilia moved from California in 2022, and currently serves on the Trenton School Board. Claire relocated from New Jersey in 2022 and is Vice Chair of the Bar Harbor Board of Appeals. Cecilia and Claire are eager to share the League of Women Voters Guide to Local Government with others who may be new to the state or looking to get involved with their local government.
This program is free and open to all, and will be held in the library's Howard Room. For more information, please email Assistant Director Kayleigh Thomas at kayleigh.thomas@bhpl.net or call 374-5515. For more information of the League of Women Voters, please visit the website.
